Our Expert Guide will take us on an incredible 3-day trekking journey, discovering the historical presence of the Inca Empire and today's native cultures. On this tour you will observe, as we gain altitude, incredible panoramic views of the Quebrada del Toro, where the famous Train to the Clouds passes through.
You'll also explore the Quebrada del Toro where you'll be able to make out small formations with different coloration. However, over the course of our hike, we'll be able to see the system as a whole, making the strata full of colors much more obvious. Here, we'll gain a better understanding of the geological history of this interesting place.
In addition to the ancient geological history, our journey will also provide us with rich cultural history. While hiking, we'll discover ancient paths, traveled by different Pre-Colombian cultures, including the Incas. Walking in the footsteps of these wise people, we will arrive to Incahuasi Valley, where we'll see an ancient Inca throne, over 500 years old, built for the Inca "tax collector". After visiting the ruins, we'll set up our camp for the night.
In the morning after breakfast, we'll say goodbye to our hosts and continue our journey. As we go on, you'll slowly begin to notice a transition. Every step becomes a bit wetter, pastures turn greener, and the valley full of deep gorges and crystalline rivers will start to show itself.
From the Abra de la Cruz, at 3,100 meters above sea level, we will stop for a bit to enjoy the incredible views of the city of Salta and its surrounding area.
At dusk, we'll prepare our camp at a place known as The Viewpoint of the Condors, from where you'll be able to admire the great Quebrada de Astilleros and majestic flight of the condors.
On the third day, we'll continue our descent to Heaven's Gate. At noon, we'll enjoy a picnic on the shores of Astillero River. Afterwards, we'll finish our hike to the meeting point where our support vehicle awaits us.
Note: Packing mule is not included, and costs $270 (USD) for the whole group. If you choose this option, you can pay directly before the tour. Trekking is of medium difficulty.
