Our expert guides will take you on a tour of Pablo Neruda's famous house in Isla Nega. Neruda was a world renowned poet, Chilean icon, and literature Nobel Prize Winner.
We will walk some meters from the highway, through wavy winding streets surrounded by big pine tress, before coming upon Neruda's huge museum-like house, which today, belongs to the Neruda Foundation. You will see a beautiful small beach overlooking the outdoor bell at Neruda's house. In the house’s garden there is a bell tower, a boat, a water fountain, and the tombs of Neruda and his last wife Matilde Urrutia, both facing the sea. Within the more than 500 square meters of the house, you will delight in the different objects collected by the poet during his life, including: masks, bottles, photographs, maps, boxes, weird insects, and butterflies.
The spirit of the poet, who died shortly after the coup in 1973, remains a living icon in this town. You will find murals with the figure of Neftali Reyes (his real name), Neruda paintings at small craft fairs, or eat in restaurants honoring Neruda with the title of their main dishes.
See the unceasing waves crushing against black rocks, which always fascinated Neruda, and follow the legacy of the Chilean writer and poet that has become one of Chile's greatest icons.
