Our Expert Guide will take us by helicopter and by foot to explore Medellín's radical transformation - process that began just 20 years ago, and has helped the city cross over from fear into hope. We will fly with experienced pilots, while discovering the stories of the most important places in Medellín.
We will visit commune 13, a lattice-like complex of hills and streets. This area is full of dark passages and stories linked to the infamous drug cartels. We will learn how, with creativity and unconventional solutions, the city has created an urban system that integrates the most remote communities in social development. This was accomplished by building networks of libraries, sports complexes, and escalators to better access the hills, as well as by incorporating a mass transit system in the community.
Medellín's urban transformation has been recognized with a variety of awards, including the Lee Kuan Yew World City Prize in international architecture at the beginning of 2016.
A member of the artist collective House Kolacho will accompany us during the tour, telling us their first person accounts of the stories that surround commune 13, and about how the collective has combated violence with art.
Join us on a unique journey, getting an inside look at one of the most important urban transformations of recent times!
