Our Expert Guide will lead you on an unbelievable 8-day journey, exploring the wild Peruvian jungle where you'll experience sailing hours down Amazonian rivers leading deeper and deeper into the trees and discovering unimaginable flora and fauna found in few other places in the world.
The adventure begins as we depart from the city of Iquitos and travel to Nauta in a private car. The excitement will start to set in as you observe modern day civilization slowly fading away, and the powerful jungle growing ever nearer. Upon arrival in Nauta, we'll board a motor boat and cruise down the Marañón River, delving deeper into the lush forested landscapes. After about three and a half hours on the river, we'll arrive at Buenos Aires, our base in the National Reserve.
We'll kick off the second day with a hearty breakfast followed by another three hours motor boating down the river. This time, we'll be sailing along Yanayacu River which will take us to our campsite where we'll set up our tents. Here, we'll venture out into the wild landscapes of Pacaya Samiria, exploring Wolf Lake and Huaylla Lake, which is the ideal place to observe a large number of birds, pink and gray river dolphins, and a variety of monkeys. In the evening, we'll journey on a special night hike. During this hike, you'll have the unique opportunity to see different types of insects, nocturnal birds and monkeys, giant lizards, and even anacondas. Our Expert Guide will also teach you the basics of survival in the jungle, proper hiking techniques, and skills such as natural orientation and fire starting.
On the third day of our adventure, we'll continue to venture deeper into the jungle, this time sailing for 5 hours to Chingana, our next campsite. In Chingana, you'll be able to admire a large number of colorful macaws, curious turtles, and even learn about the medicinal uses for native plants and trees.
The following day we'll walk even further into the jungle to the Huarmi Island surveillance post. Here, we'll enjoy a hearty lunch and set up our camps for the night. After relaxing a bit and watching a spectacular sunset, we'll venture on another night hike in order to observe even more captivating nocturnal jungle species.
After breakfast on the fifth day, we'll continue sailing towards El Dorado Lake. Along the way, you're sure to be in awe of the incredible lizards we'll see, some stretching an unbelievable 6 meters in length! Once we reach El Dorado, we'll relax for a bit at the site's shelter which has basic amenities. From this base, you'll delight in fishing and admiring some of the Natural Reserve's richest flora and fauna. This is the true heart of Pacaya Samiria Reserve, and it is overflowing with magnificent monkeys, sloths, orchids, birds, and snakes. At night, we'll head out into the trees to look for some of South America's largest rodents and marvel at alligators no less than three meters long.
The following day, we'll begin our return journey, sailing on the river until arriving at the Yarina Community to stay for the night before continuing the next day. On the seventh day, we'll reach Buenos Aires again where we'll be able to spend the rest of the day relaxing and participating in a variety of optional activities as our adventure winds down.
Finally, on our last day, you'll be rewarded with an awe-inspiring sunrise hike experiencing the jungle and all its inhabitants wake for the dawn of a new day. After enjoying a tasty breakfast, you'll have the option of fishing, swimming with dolphins, or canoeing, taking in all you can of our last few hours in the lush Peruvian jungle landscapes before we return to Nauta and eventually Iquitos, closing the book on our magical nature journey.
Join us for 8 days jam-packed with alluring wildlife, dreamlike landscapes, and unforgettable experiences which you can only find in Peru's dazzling Pacaya Samiria National Reserve.
Note: Pacaya Samiria National Reserve is completely wild, however if you'd prefer a little more comfort, we do have a few cabins inside the reserve with beds and shared bathrooms that are totally closed for mosquito protection. These are located along the river every 40 - 50 km.
